Easy Grilled Catfish

One of my guilty pleasures is deep-fried catfish. But even I have to shy away from fried foods once in a while. This simple version of catfish filets cooked on the grill is delicious.

I’m sure it would work just fine on other white fish, so experiment!

I call the oil, lemon juice and seasoning mix my “drizzle”. It works great for fish and shrimp. And, it’s darn good on pork chops and chicken.

I use a wire basket for these, if you don’t have one, you should invest in one. This way your fish doesn’t get stuck to the grill and fall apart.

This recipe serves four hungry folks. Adjust as needed.

Here’s what you’ll need for these:

  • 2 pounds catfish filets (fresher the better!)
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or canola oil
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning mix

Here’s an overview of what we’re going to do:

  1. Mix up the drizzle
  2. Brush/drizzle the catfish filets with the lemon juice.
  3. Sprinkle the Cajun mix on the filets and press it in
  4. Grill on a medium heat grill about 5 minutes per side.
  5. Serve with white rice and slaw.
  6. Relax.

Step 1:
In a small bowl mix together the lemon juice and oil.
You should also get your grill started. You want a medium fire, about 300 degrees or so if you have a thermometer.

Step 2:
Brush both sides of the fish with the lemon juice and oil mixture.

Step 3:
Dust both sides of the fish with Cajun seasoning and make sure to press the seasoning in with your fingers.

Step 4:
Put the fish in a grilling basket.

Step 5:
Put the basket on the grill, cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes per side.

Step 6:
I grill mine in batches. The ones that are cooked, I keep on a tray in the oven at about 250 degrees while the rest are cooking. Serve with Hot Sauce or Come Back Sauce!
